Special Cards
When a special card enters the center row, there will be an immediate action the card will take against all players.
-
Promotions: there are certain cards that are marked as Promotable (
), which allows them to be elevated from the Bench to the Board only if a Promotion card is played. If a card is Promoted from the Bench, the card it is replacing is to be placed on top of the dead letter queue.
-
Demotions and Layoffs: if a player has a Demotion card or a card marked as Demotion (
), and has a Leader card on the Bench, that player can demote a Leader currently on the Board and replace it with the Leader card on the Bench, effectively swapping places. If a Layoff card is played, each player must add one item of Unplanned Work to the Backlog for every Feature they currently have active. The Shareholders have spoken—it’s time for you to go.
- Flip: as mentioned before, there are certain cards which act as Double Agents, meaning they can be turned easily to an opposing viewpoint. This also means the effect of the card that is a Double Agent is reversed. A player who has a Flip card on the Bench can choose to play that on a card currently on the Board in that player’s game area or may play it against an opposing player.
- Reorganizations: these are much less frequent in the game than they are in real life but do offer a player the ability to rearrange The Board without needing to use a Promotion card. The caveat is that only Leader cards that are on The Bench can be moved into The Board during a reorganization. If a player invokes a reorg, and you do not have any Leaders on your Bench, you are not able to make any Leadership changes.
- Vendor Consolidation: if it’s one thing Procurement hates, it’s extra work. If a player invokes a Consolidation, and is currently playing as an FTE, that player can pick one opposing player who is playing as a Consultant and “break their service agreement”, effectively booting them out of the game. Only one Vendor Consolidation card exists in the deck, so it is very rare that it will come up. It does give an added element of surprise to the game and keeps everyone on their toes.
